Sarah Niwemuhwezi is an Environmental Consultant with Orbit Environmental Consult, where she supports environmental assessments, biodiversity studies, and community engagement projects. Her consultancy experience has given her exposure to biodiversity management frameworks and to Ugandas commitments under the CBD and the Nagoya Protocol. She has participated in projects where researchers accessed local ecosystems, and her role has included advising on legal and ethical safeguards for the use of genetic resources. Sarah is conversant with ABS provisions, emphasising that communities must be engaged through PIC and benefit-sharing agreements. She contributes to awareness-building by simplifying ABS procedures for clients and local partners, ensuring compliance with Ugandas national ABS regulations. Her dual expertise in environmental consulting and community liaison allows her to integrate ABS awareness into practical fieldwork and environmental project design. She has experience in monitoring compliance with ABS agreements and ensuring that all parties adhere to the terms.
